What is an NIP?

A Notice of Intended Prosecution. The police must serve this within 14 days of the alleged offense, or the prosecution may fail.

Can I challenge a speeding fine?

Yes. You can plead not guilty and have the case heard at magistrates court. The prosecutor must prove you were speeding.

What if the NIP was served late?

If served more than 14 days after the offense (without good reason), the prosecution must be dismissed.
