Can they bill me for more than a year of missed charges?
Only if the failure to bill was your fault (for example, refusing meter reads). If the supplier failed to bill you correctly, Ofgem's back-billing rules cap the amount they can recover at 12 months.
How long does the supplier have to reply?
Eight weeks from your written complaint before you can escalate to the Energy Ombudsman free of charge. The Ombudsman's decision is binding on the supplier if you accept it.
