Am I owed UK261 compensation?
If your flight departed a UK airport, or arrived at a UK airport on a UK/EU airline, and was delayed by 3 or more hours or cancelled - yes, unless the airline can prove extraordinary circumstances. Compensation is £220 to £520 per passenger depending on distance.
How long do I have to claim?
Six years in England and Wales; five years in Scotland. Airlines often quote shorter windows in their T&Cs but these do not override statutory limits.
Do I have to accept vouchers instead of cash?
No. Under UK261 you have the right to a cash refund of the ticket price if the flight was cancelled or you accepted rerouting more than 24 hours later. Vouchers are optional.
